Happy Clappy Crochet

Celebrating Crochet with a Positive Spin

About

One summer, when I was 9 or 10, my paternal grandmother taught me how to crochet.  I know for sure that she taught me how to chain, how to double crochet, and how to make a dc shell, because I vaguely remembered those stitches when I decided to get back to crocheting when I was in my mid-30s.  What was it that brought me back to crochet?  Eyelash yarn. Yep, you heard me right – eyelash yarn.  There were so many fun color combos that I thought they would make perfect scarves for the women in my life.  So I picked a great book (Teach Yourself Visually Crochet) and not only re-learned what Grandma K taught me, but many more stitches also.  To put it plainly, I was hooked and have been crocheting like crazy ever since.

In December 2010, I joined the Crochet Guild of America, and in November 2011, I started teaching classes at my Local Yarn Store – Fuzzy Wuzzy Yarns in Arlington Heights, IL.  Alas, my LYS closed in December 2013, so my crochet teaching career was short-lived. Another door opened, however, and I started designing crochet patterns for Cascade Yarns in January 2013. You can check out what I’ve designed so far at  http://www.cascadeyarns.com/patterns_LauraKrzak.asp

Sorry about the lack of official participation in the UFO CAL. However, when I read your initial post, I was right in the middle of moving and reorganizing my crafting space and you did inspire me to pull out an afghan that had been sitting there unfinished for about five years. I’m just about done, so thanks for the inspiration.
