Simple Crochet Mesh Scarf Pattern

on January 25, 2013

I’ve been teaching Beginning Crochet at my LYS for 16 months now, and the owner suggested that I publish the two scarf patterns I use in class.  Here is one of them.

Simple Mesh Scarf

Mesh Scarf Mesh Scarf Long

Materials Used: Worsted Weight Yarn – minimum 210 yards

H (5.00 mm) hook

 written in US terms

Gauge: 3″ = 15 stitches across / 5 rows height

Directions:  Chain 15 stitches, then add 4 more chains (counts as 1st DC and 1st CH)

Row 1:  1 DC in 7th chain from the hook.  *1 CH, skip 1 ch, 1 DC in next ch, repeat from * to end, ending with DC.  Turn.

Row 2: CH 4 (counts as 1st DC and CH here and throughout pattern), skip first dc and ch on previous row, *1 DC in next dc, 1 CH, repeat from *, ending with 1 DC in 5th ch of turning chain.  Turn.

Row 3:  CH 4, skip first dc and ch on previous row, *1 DC in next dc, 1 CH, repeat from *, ending with 1 DC in 3rd ch of turning chain.  Turn.

Repeat Row 3 until scarf is desired length.

Option: Add fringe to scarf to give it a fun feel.

Model in picture is crocheted in Berroco Comfort – 1 skein.  For a Spring / Summer look, try a fingering weight or sock yarn.

PLEASE NOTE:  WHILE I DID NOT CREATE THE STITCH PATTERN USED FOR THIS SCARF, I DID TAKE TIME TO WORK OUT HOW THE STITCH PATTERN WAS USED TO CREATE THE ITEM I WANTED, ALONG WITH THE TIME NEEDED TO MAKE SURE THE PATTERN WAS WRITTEN CORRECTLY.  I AM OFFERING IT AS A FREE PATTERN SO BEGINNERS CAN EXPAND THEIR PATTERN LIBRARIES.  PLEASE DO NOT COPY THIS PATTERN AND TRY TO SELL IT OFF AS YOUR OWN.  YOU WILL BE CAUGHT AND ACTION TAKEN AGAINST YOU.
