Adieu, Getting Loopy!

on November 7, 2011

Mary Beth Temple, host of the Getting Loopy podcast, just announced that the last podcast will be on December 5, 2011.

I discovered the Getting Loopy podcast in the summer of 2009.  I think it was mentioned on the YarnCraft podcast, so I did a Google search and found it.  I was really happy when I found it on iTunes, as I could go back and listen from episode one.  I spent many a happy day listening to older episodes of Getting Loopy while at work.  While I may have been too busy typing invoices and quotes and doing other office stuff to actually have a hook and yarn in my hand,, and least I got to listen about it and that made the afternoons go by so much faster.

I participated in my first ever CAL through the Getting Loopy Ravelry group.  It was the Rosewood pattern that Mary Beth designed, and I was the first one (technically, the only one) to get it done in the month time frame.

We extended the time by a few more weeks, and someone else finished as well.  I really enjoyed making this pattern, and ended up making one more – so both of my sisters now own this top.

Getting Loopy also led to my first bit of Crochet Activism.  When Mary Beth had announced that fees were increasing quite a bit for hosting the podcast, I started a fund-raising campaign.  I just felt it was very important to keep a positive voice for crochet on the air, so to speak.

And then something magical happened.  Mary Beth and I struck up an internet friendship, and it was great.  I was super happy to cheerlead for whatever she needed supported, and she became a mentor and a friend; someone who helped me in so many ways as I found my voice in promoting crochet.  What a priceless gift her friendship has become.

So now the podcast is ending, but I can’t be too sad.  We all need to evolve and take those next steps.  I know Mary Beth will still be a big crochet voice next year – she’s got an amazing book coming out plus some awesome classes on Craftsy.com which to look forward.

So that’s what I’m doing – looking forward.  Mary Beth Temple, I salute you for all you have already done for the craft of crochet, and I so cannot wait for the amazing things to come.  Thank you.
